Today, September 12, 2024, we will visit Metzabok, leaving from Palenque, Chiapas. We leave at 7:00 am, and the trip by transport can take around 2 and a half hours.
We take the road from Palenque to Ocosingo, Chiapas. About 20 minutes away, at the Ashupa junction, we take highway 307, which leads to Frontera Corozal, for about 40 minutes until we reach the Chancalá Cruise, where we turn right.
We follow the road that leads to the town of El Piñal for about 30 minutes, after which we turn right, towards Piedrón, for another 15 minutes.
After passing the town of Piedrón, we follow the road passing through the following towns: Ampliación, Jol Diamante, Crucero El Peña Limonar, Cuauhtémoc and La Esperanza, until we reach the Metzabok Cruise. From there, we travel 7 kilometers inland, which takes approximately 10 minutes, until we reach the town of Metzabok.
Upon arrival, we register at the entrance booth, at a cost of $47.00 per person.
In the town, we visit Mrs. Mari, who prepares homemade breakfasts. Although it is not a restaurant, Mrs. Mari, very kindly, explains to us the dishes she can prepare: egg with ham, egg with sausage, or egg cooked in a banana leaf, accompanied by handmade corn tortillas and coffee from a pot. Breakfast costs $100.00 per person.
After breakfast, we take a native Lacandon guide from the town, who takes us on a tour of approximately 3 to 4 hours, visiting the following attractions: the Cave Painting, the Tzibana Cave, archaeological sites and the Mirador. During the tour, the guide Elías Chanki explains each site and its importance.
At the end of the tour, we return to Palenque, Chiapas, to rest. This experience is not offered by any travel agency, but Apasionado X Chiapas is one of those that can take you to see the place, with a minimum of 1 to 2 people on private trips. Here are our contacts:
